Hello everyone! Just returned from my amazing getaway trip in the Caribbean! So beautiful there! We were only there for four nights and I wish we could have stayed longer because it was so relaxing and amazing. I would definitely recommend Dominican Republic to anyone who wants to take a Caribbean vacation. As you can see by the pictures below it's beautiful! My friend and I did an all inclusive vacation there and for my first trip there that was definitely the way to go. We didn't even need to leave the resort! All you can eat and drink! The resort we stayed on is called the Riu and it has several different hotels at that one resort. At first we were at the Riu Bambu but then when we arrived they had upgraded us to the Riu Macao, which was an adults only side, which actually turned out to be nice. Don't get me wrong I love kids but it was nice to not have to hear screaming children or watch them running around for a little bit. We were able to just relax on the beach and get a nice tan. The people in the Dominican are so nice and welcoming. The tourism there really is their livelihood so we made sure to tip good because once you get off the resort you realize how poverty stricken the area is. As much as I loved the resort and it was so nice to relax, I think it would be amazing to do a medical trip there if possible. Hope I get that opportunity in the Navy! Other than that life is back to normal now. I am working at the cancer center and hope to start working as a temporary nurse there soon. Only two more months until I can be physically cleared and hopefully on to ODS and Japan! I hope everyone is doing well and the semester is off to a good start!
Thought I would just make a quick update post because it has been a little while since I've posted! A lot has been happening over the holidays and I finally feel like things are starting to fall into place. I spent the holidays in Nebraska with my family and it was so great to see everyone, especially my grandparents. We came home before the New Year and I was able to spend it with my closest friends here in Colorado, it was a blast! Lately I have just been waiting for my license and it finally came yesterday! So I am actually officially Amanda Brock BSN, RN!
So since the new year began I have just been applying for temporary nursing positions with little luck. However I did get some good news; when I was a student in Colorado I worked for the cancer center at the University of Colorado hospital for a long time and actually continued to work for them remotely while I was in San Diego for nursing school. Well they are so amazing and want me back! So I will be doing some temporary data entry for them and then they pitched the idea that they will eventually transition me over to a temporary RN position! I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs!!! So while it is not floor nursing, it is nursing and I will be starting IV's, taking vitals, monitoring patients, talking with them, etc. And eventually I could be transitioned into an infusion nurse there which would be fabulous! I am so excited! So it looks like I will have a job for the time being and I will gain some nursing skills in the mean time while I wait for this hip to heal. As for Navy related news, not much to report here, although I have been busy just sending the Navy all my official documents, diploma, transcript, license, etc. Now that they have everything it will literally just be the note I get from my doctor clearing me that will get the ball rolling again. I have an appointment set up for March 16th and while that seems really far away it isn't! So I just continue to do my rehab and take it easy so that everything heals like its supposed to. I have been feeling much better now and I know I am on the mend because my pain has diminished significantly and I am able to do more than ever. Oh and lastly, I will be taking a trip to the Dominican Republic next week for some well deserved R&R |
