Something I learned today; If your detailer calls you and tells you are going somewhere and its not exactly what you wanted ask for what you want! I answered the phone and my detailer told me I was going to Walter Reed. I was not disappointed, I was happy it was somewhere other than San Diego but I was sad I wouldn't be going overseas. I started to tell him thank you and then I asked if it would be possible to go overseas? He said "yeah why wouldn't that be possible?" And I was like well you didn't give me an option and he said I was just giving you your first choice on your duty preference sheet (by the way I was told to not put any overseas duty stations but don't listen! /Apparently you can!). He then asked me, "where would you like to go? Guam, Okinawa, or Yokosuka?" And I said Yokosuka, it was my first choice and I got it! :) So moral of the story don't just take what they give you! Ask questions and see if what you want is possible, you never know.
I did hear from someone on our facebook page that she contacted her program manager and she would not be able to be stationed overseas this contact because she would be what's called "accompanied" which means you have a family and are taking them with you. So it sounds like if you are not a single sailor they might not send you but you never know so still ASK! You never know what could happen! :)
I have sooo much research to do! The only really sad part for me is I will have to leave my beautiful German Shepherd puppy behind. :'( Makes me sooo sad but I think the billet is only for two years because overseas billets are usually only 2 years. Either way I will miss her so much, she is my best friend! But I will let my parents take care of her for a while and it is the best interest of her because she will have more fun and space at my parent's. I will just have to facetime with my mom everyday to see her and get my fix :) Of course I will miss my friends and family too but I just have a very deep love and connection with my pup and they only live so long so I am sad I will miss time with her. :'( Makes me very sad to think about but I know she will be very well taken care of.
I will keep you guys updated on any other changes but for now its just about finishing school and graduating and passing my NCLEX! Can't wait to get started in my career as a Navy nurse! :)
