The unit I am on, MSU, can be slow some days and then other days it can be filled and your head is spinning. But I like the variety of patients and the use of critical thinking skills is much higher on a unit like this. Although OB isn't as bad as I thought I realized I really did miss the critical thinking while I was on that unit. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that I won't end up in OB but even if I do I can request to transfer to a different unit in a year. The Navy is great in some ways and not so great in others, one thing you have to consider when thinking about joining the Navy is that as a nurse you will have little say in what unit you go to. They will take your interests into account but especially at a small hospital like Yokosuka they need people where they need them so if it doesn't align with your desires, tough s**t. The Navy's needs come first, plain and simple. But you just have to be positive and go with the flow sort off, the military is really good at derailing plans so be ready for that and be flexible. If you want something bad enough you can still make it happen!
The past month I have been visiting Tokyo a lot and enjoying some of the night life the city has to offer. Japanese really can party! They're bars and clubs here stay open until like 5:30 AM! I have had a blast meeting new people and seeing the massive city of Tokyo! There are a few new JO's (junior officers) that just got to the hospital so I have had lots of friends to explore and have fun with! This week I will do the PRT and then I have a few days off during the week so I think I will go explore more of Kamakura and see the Great Buddha, I will be sure to post pictures! :)
