So I am including a ton of pictures in this post of all that has been going on. Late July I moved into my place and I am so glad to finally have my own space. My apartment is pretty big in terms of Japanese living quarters and now I am just trying to find a place for everything. I still have to buy a lot of things for my place but I will buy them slowly. I also love the area I live in; it is so convenient, I can walk to anything I need or bike five minutes to just about anything. Its about a 10-15 minute bike ride, 10 minute drive, and 20-25 minute walk from base. There are a few other military members that live in my building but for the most part it is Japanese so it makes me feel like I am actually living in Japan. I can also see the ocean from my balcony and I have a pretty good view of the city. I love it! I am still trying to adjust to all the differences like how they sort their trash here. I have to have four different trash cans! They have a burnable, non burnable, plastic, bottles and cans, and a group resource collection. It's crazy but it does make a lot of sense. Also my refrigerator is a lot smaller than I am used to, its like a mini fridge but a little taller and the freezer is a little bigger. So I have grocery shop a lot more. I also have been biking to work every day until recently so that's another adjustment!
I also explored Yokohama a bit with my sponsor one weekend and I went to Tokyo two weekends in a row and saw a lot of cool places. We went to see fireworks one weekend which was an amazing show but it was insanely busy! The streets were filled with people and the trains needed train pushers which was an experience. Last weekend I went to Shibuya crossing which is the crossing you always seen on TV shows or movies where there is an insane amount of people going every direction. Its the busiest crossing in the world supposedly! There is also a Hooters there so that was like a little slice of home, well sort of because it is still really different!
Navy nursing wise I am going through the nurse residency program right now so I have been with PACU/APU/OR for the past three weeks. This week I start with the MIU which is the maternal infant unit or OB unit. I am kind of nervous for that because OB wasn't my favorite in nursing school and I don't remember anything from it! I am in MIU for three weeks and then I will rotate to the MSU which is basically a med-surg unit. I am quickly learning that the RN, BSN behind my name do not mean anything in Navy medicine because the corpsman know so much more than I do! It is very humbling because you think you know a lot because you have this expensive education and really you know nothing and can learn SOOOO much from everyone around you but especially the corpsman. I am just trying to sit back and soak it all in.
Well now that I have internet I will be better about posting more often, sorry for the lag!
